Europe and the English
Why do the European's not like the folk in England?
Have you ever seen the Euro-vision song contest?
It’s embarrassingly pathetic watching the UK always getting nil points.
The English and France
Especially France and England.
For as long as I can remember the French and the English haven't got on.
I adore the French.
I love their culture, their language, their food, their accent (so romantic).
The love of France
My son nearly married a beautiful French girl.
I was extremely upset when things didn't work out and longed for them to re-unite.
For someone who claims to love France, I've only been there three times.
Shocking you may say, especially when its only about thirty minutes by plane.
I can assure you its no reflection on the country or the people;
I’m just not much of a traveller.
Can The French Speak English?
I have heard that a French person will pretend that they can’t speak English when on home ground as they feel that the English are an arrogant race when it comes to language.
Instead of trying to speak the colloquial of the place we’re visiting, the English speak very loud and slow not understanding why that doesn't work.
Let’s face it, we are arrogant.
After all, English is the language of the computer, why learn anything else when the world speaks English? Now I’m showing the same arrogance, sorry.
Is it true?
Do the French do this?
Do they pretend they can’t understand?
Is anyone French reading this?
I would love to hear from you.
Why can’t we ‘get along ?’ we’re neighbours for goodness sake.
We built a tunnel under the sea, didn't that work?
Recent Events
In the light of recent events relations between France and England have become somewhat the worse for wear.
‘Why’ you ask?
David Cameron said no to the European Union Treaty or quoting The American Spectator, ‘he refused to join in the European suicide pact’ . He wielded the veto and said no . Some feel he was looking out for the British people, others think the bankers.
I think he was very brave and as much as I am not a fan of Cameron, or any other politician, I did sense a feeling of pride for David Cameron as a man , not as a politician and I must add, not for any reason of contempt or bad feeling towards the French . David Cameron showed back bone and integrity. He did what he felt was the right thing, even swimming against the tide of the majority.
Last week I saw footage of David Cameron being slighted by the French president but to tell you the truth, I thought the media were making more of it than it was. Since then Nicolas Sarkozy has called Cameron an ‘obstinate kid’. Ouch!
Do you think it should be ‘tit for tat’?
Do you think David Cameron should respond?
Is the way things are turning out a current crisis or do we have a damaged relationship from years gone by.
Are we distant cousins that have always had and always will hold grudges and jealousy towards one another?
We have a tremendous history.
We will wait and see.
Watch this space.
It will all be okay.
Politicians are just humans like the rest of us.
They get angry, upset, and proud and sometimes throw their toys out the pram.
There Will Be another Day
Lets leave the French and English relations for another time.

Lesley, I agree with your sentiments about David Cameron, I'm not a fan of his either but I also think it was the right decision.
Also worth mentioning is the 22 miles of water between us and the rest of Europe, at times through our history that stretch of water has been our saviour. Like your written style on this . voted up, well done.

Lesley, it happens on every continent when one country believe that they are more superior than the others. The same thing with the Caribbean and Asia. Not so sure about Central and South America but it's the same in Africa too.
What Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean have in common is that there are those that see themselves differently whether due to economical differences like Japan and China, where Japan was the wealthier of the two. Trinidad and the Cayman islands do the same. There are many reasons why countries on the same continent segregate themselves from each other, it's up to the people to change that.
